Good news for Night fans; The Happening apparently exceeded almost all expectations by taking in roughly $13 million on Friday.

Night's films have, at times, been extremely front-loaded, and this is also true of horror films opening on Friday the 13th, as well, so it's likely that The Happening's Friday gross will make up a good portion of its total weekend gross.

Nevertheless, this first day gross all but ensures that the film will meet or exceed the box office expectations (which we detailed yesterday) most prognosticators had for it. A $30+ million opening seems well within reach.
